Νew High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Malawi, seated in Pretoria, Yiannis Iacovou presented his credential last week to the President of the country, Arthur Peter Mutharika.
According to a PIO press release, speaking during the credentials ceremony, the new High Commissioner conveyed Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades' greetings to the President of Malawi, along with his wishes for progress and prosperity for the people of the country.
The new High Commissioner expressed his readiness to develop the bilateral relations between the two countries, to their mutual benefit. He also conveyed the gratitude of the Cyprus government for the position of the Malawi government in favour of resolving the Cyprus problem in the framework of the UN Security Council resolutions, by supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cyprus.
Iacovou also had a separate meeting with the Foreign Minister of Malawi Emmanuel Fabiano, whom he briefed on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, highlighting the efforts of President Nicos Anastasiades to make progress at the Cyprus Conference for Cyprus in Crans Montana, within the framework of the United Nations.
The two ministers also reviewed bilateral relations with the aim of finding areas where Cyprus` experience will help Malawi`s development.
